R.I.F.F. (Rarely in Four/ Four)

Odd meters are cool and we want to share them with you!

Our idea is to take your more common 4/4 tunes and play it them using odd meters (5/4, 7/8, etc.), still keeping its essence intact so that you can still groove to that “same old tune” but with a little twist! Originals to come soon.

R.I.F.F. is:

Mitch Farber on Guitar

Mitch Farber is one of the very best guitarists in South Florida. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mitch took up the guitar at the age of 10 and studied privately for seven years before playing professionally at 17 in various bands and venues around Philadelphia. Although his training mainly focused on jazz, he was greatly influenced by rock, funk, and fusion. His musical influences included progressive rock artists Genesis, Yes, and Gentle Giant, as well as jazz guitarists Pat Martino, George Benson, and Pat Metheny. In 1974, Mitch joined the band Birthright for a couple of years with Bob Martin, who went on to play with Frank Zappa, Orleans, and Bette Midler. He then toured across the country with Ken Hamilton and Terry Malone and played with Chuck Mangione and Rick Derringer. In 1984, he moved to Miami and studied at Miami Dade College with John Defaria of Miami Sound Machine and Dave Weisbrot, before becoming adjunct faculty in 1993. Mitch has worked with many artists throughout the years, including Cristian Castro, Nestor Torres, and Julio Iglesias, touring the world to countries like Japan, Australia, Spain, Russia, Portugal, Malaysia, the Philipinnes, and Argentina, to name a few. Mitch continues to teach at Miami Dade College, and after twenty years, he is still in demand as a performer, maintaining a very busy performance schedule throughout the year.

Ettienne Fuentes Jr. on Drums

Highly regarded as one of the most sought out drummers in South Florida, Etienne has been performing for over 30 years. After studying privately in San Juan, Puerto Rico (where he was born) with such greats as Rudy Regalado, Freddie Santiago, and Tony Sanchez SR., he entered the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico for 1 1/2 years. He then moved to the United States where he established his roots in Miami, enrolling at the University of Miami studying under Steve Rucker, Steve Bagby, Fred Wichstrom and others. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Studio Music and Jazz. He has performed, recorded and/or toured with artists such as Chuck Mangione, Nestor Torres, Letha Galloway, Arturo Sandoval, Dom Um Rumao, Debbie Spring, Ira Sullian, and the list goes on. In between his budy touring schedule, he continues to teach privately and offers clinics. He is also the drummer for The Brass Evolution (see above) as well as R.I.F.F. and many other bands. He is highly influenced by and continues to study such drummer such as Tony Williams, Vince Colaiuta, Steve Smith, Steve Gadd, Buddy Rich, Elvin Jones, Terry Bozzio, Chad Smith and many others.
